Trying to run a Windows 95/98 CD-ROM game on Windows 10, Compatibility Mode not working, not installing or opening. Solved I'm currently trying to run Clue: Murder at Boddy Mansion (Windows 95/98) on my Windows 10 laptop. Insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM Setup Boot Disk in floppy drive A: and insert the Windows 95 CD in the CD-ROM drive. Power on the virtual machine. After the virtual machine boots, if you are presented with a choice of CD-ROM drivers, select the first IDE driver option available (even if your computer has a SCSI CD-ROM drive). Partition the virtual disk.

Any idea how I could reformat C drive and reinstall Windows95 from scratch without a CD drive?
My husband brought home his old computer from the office when he upgraded. It was running Windows 95 on a network, and he just unplugged it and brought it home. It's been awful buggy. (I sometimes have to reboot half a dozen times before it will let me do anything in explorer 'without administrative permission'.) It's been turning a bit blue lately. I would like to wipe out the OS and reinstall everything from scratch.
I have the Win95 CD, but my CD drive isn't working (puter thinks the tray isn't closed). I've partitioned the hard drive and moved all my uninstalled files/docs to another drive along with setup files for most of programs (acquired from the internet). I'd be lose a couple of games installed from CDs. But, I have the Roadrunner cable internet connection install on CD. I'll need to find someway to install that.
What I'd really like to do is buy a new computer (AMD with WinXP?), but I can't afford it right now. I'm not sure this one is worth updating. It's a CyrixInstead with 32MB RAM (beyond that I have no idea). I use the computer primarily for internet and creating computer graphics (it's completely inadequate for the graphics work). If I were to update the RAM and get a new CD player, could they be used later with an Anthlon processor when and if I ever get one?
I don't know if it would help, but I do have more than enough space on my husbands web-site to temporarily store my entire hard drive.
If I were to find a Windows 95 install on the internet and used my own (legit) registration number, would that be illegal? Are MS programs like Word and Excel included in the Win95 install or do they have to be installed separately? Is there a different reg. # for them? (hubby only brought home the one CD for Win95) I don't want to do anything I could get in trouble for.
So, can I do it somehow? How would I go about it? I reformatted and reinstalled windows on an old computer, but I'm not sure I remember how it's done. I assume that once I re-install windows I could just use explorer to get to the setup files for everything else. How could I install Roadrunner? Should I update DOS at the same time? Anything else I should do?
Any ideas? I'm not sure what to do. View image: /infopop/emoticons/icon_confused.gif
